A massive thank you for thinking about volunteering with us at 1st Seaton Scout Group.
As a Young Leader (or 'YL'), you'll be an inspirational role-model for the younger members of our Scout Group. Just like a big sister or a big brother.
You're cool. You're relevant. You're awesome!
Our Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts will enjoy being able to relate to you. And you'll directly help bring their Scouting experience to life!
We also want to make sure that it's fun and rewarding for you too!
So why not do it with a friend?
It can count towards your Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE).
The skills you'll gain can help you stand out from the crowd when applying for college, university or work.
You don't need to be a super hero on day one... But you will be by the end!
Developing at your own pace, we'll provide a safe and supportive space to help you get the most out of your volunteering. As a valued member of our Section Teams, you will:
Build confidence.
Learn how to plan activities and manage risk.
Improve your leadership skills.
Examples of getting involved means you might like to:
Provide 1:1 support for members of our youngest age section, Squirrels (ages 4-6).
Help a small group of Beavers (ages 6-8) achieve a task.
Run some new and fun games for Cubs (ages 8-10½).
Organise an exciting activity for Scouts (ages 10½-14).
You'll never be left on your own, and there will always be adult leaders to support you.
Finally, as a youth-shaped organisation, we're keen to hear your ideas about how we can improve our activity programme or how we do things.
So get involved!

Our sections meet every week during term time, but not over school holidays. There may also be extra opportunities for activity days or overnight camps at the weekends too!
You choose how much and how often you want to be involved.
Yes! As long as you're aged 13½-18, and you've got the spark to try something new!
The YL scheme is open to both existing Scouts/Explorers and non-members. So it doesn't matter if you've not been involved before – it's never too late to join in the fun!
Click each heading below to find out more about the ways to volunteer with us as a YL:
1. ...as an Explorer Scout (ages 14-18)
If you're already part of an Explorer Scout Unit, then volunteering as a YL can count towards your Platinum and Diamond Chief Scout's Awards – as well as for DofE.
Even if your school doesn't offer DofE, you can often do this through Explorers↗
You can be a YL with any Scout Group. It doesn't have to be where your Explorer Unit meets, so this can open up more opportunities closer to home.
Find your nearest Scout Groups by putting your home postcode into this locator website: www.scouts.org.uk/groups↗
2. ...as an older Scout and beyond (ages 13½-18)
If you're an older Scout (aged 13½+), or you're about to move on from Scouts but don't want to join Explorers, then you can still access all the same fun and opportunities by becoming a YL with us.
It'll count towards your DofE Award too.
Speak with any of your Scout leaders or email us at: YLs@SeatonScouts.uk
3. ...for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award (ages 13½-18)
You don't need to be a member of Scouting to be a Young Leader. To complete your DofE volunteering section with us as a YL, you can do this with us too.
Email us at: DofE@SeatonScouts.uk
4. ...for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award (ages 18-25)
If you're aged 18 or over, then you can't be a Young Leader – but you can still complete your DofE volunteering with us as an adult leader.
